This blog is part of my 38 before 38 series. I write a blog for every single day for the 38 days leading up to my 38th Birthday.
Scrolling through my feeds, I encountered something truly horrible; Mark Zuckerberg, in collaboration with T-pain, performing Lil’ John’s “Crunk” classic, “Low”. Auto tuned of course. But with an acoustic guitar backing track.
If that description makes it sound like the worst thing ever, because it is. I refuse post it so more. No one should be exposed to it.
Mark Zuckerberg has been on a PR tear as of late. It started around the time he “revealed” the Totally Not Vaporware™ AR glasses to a bunch of Tech Youtubers and blogs. Debuted his new look as well. With the 2021 Mullet and less-inappropriate-than-usual t-shirt.
It seems the $193 billion dollars in wealth is not enough for him. He wants us to believe he’s just one of us and not a ‘lizard person’. Well none of us can hire T-Pain for a vanity album. And why are Meta shareholders tolerating this?
Over the past 4 years he has sunk hundreds of millions over-hiring during the pandemic, ballooning them to over 86,000 numbers. That is almost twice the prepandemic numbers. And then fired half of them. He has sunk billions in the Metaverse. Instead of showing up in person for fluffy product reveals, maybe he should show some contrition.
I understand he’s unfireable due to the way the share classes are structure. But somebody eating crow at such a consistent level should have some consequences? At this point it is clear that he’s coasting on past success and is not very good at his job. Instead of focussing on getting unflattering $2000 haircuts, he should be focusing on making Instagram not lame. He does not need to make cringe music to seem human. He just needs to apologize to the people he hired for no reason and then fired.
