This blog is part of my 38 34 before 38 series. I write a blog for every single day for the 38 days leading up to my 38th Birthday.
I wrote previously how children are a cybersecurity threat. One way this issue shows itself is the that goddamn camera icon on the iPhone lockscreen. You child could just press that button, take as many pictures and videos, and destroy your storage. There is no way to remove it. Why? Because fuck you, that’s why!
That’s unfair. They did give you the option to change that button in iOS 18. You can now setup any other function or remove it completely. This is mitigates the issue completely.
Except that is not the only way to access the camera from the goddamn lockscreen. You swipe left to get to the camera. Why did you have two ways to access the camera from the lockscreen? Why would you create access to this feature twice?
Because the designers at Apple took a lot of peyote or DMT or some other Bay Area Bullshit fad psychedelic shit that fries your brain. Remember Apple is a huge corporation. They have 164,000 employees. A lot of them are on the design team. And they have multiple levels of approvals before they decide to add a feature.
This idiotic redundant paradigm went through all those approvals. And came through.
I understand that most people want access to a camera via the lockscreen. The camera is the main reason to buy an iPhone. But why can’t I turn it off?
Why can’t I just go in the settings and just uncheck the “Swipe to Camera”? I finally took a sigh when they announced iOS 18. I thought they allowed you to turn off the swipe as well. But, no they just fix there useless redundant UI.
Seriously, stop with this stupidity!
