This blog is part of my 38 before 38 series. I write a blog for every single day for the 38 days leading up to my 38th Birthday.
So I am short on time today. So this would just be rambling for the next 280-odd words. Making up things daily on a crunch schedule is a pain. Daily publishing is a problem. I should have known better before starting this. But I can’t let the chain break. A commitment is a commitment.
The biggest problem I have had with doing this is my workflow. I post on my website, but also on Medium, and my newsletter. I compose these posts in Notion. Mostly because Notion is the best Markdown editor that I have come across. Markdown is the process I prefer working with, because it makes formatting part of typing. I create the banner/cover in canva.
However, I have spent no time streamlining this process. I write, edit, and format the post in Notion. Create the banner in Canva. Copy the text to my WordPress site. Upload the thumbnail. Write alt-text/accessibility description manually. Post it. Get the link. Then copy-and-paste the same post in Medium. Add the banner. Paste the alt-description. Add the website permalink to the medium post. Then all this again for Kit, my newsletter service provider.
Given my technical acumen, I can automate a lot of this. However, it would take a lot longer than a day. Since I have to post every day, I would have to work on the automation solution, plus the blog post, plus also have a life, with a family. This is something I should have taken care of before starting.
But if I was this fastidious, I wouldn’t be where I am. That would have required planning at least a month before start. So for now, at least until this series is over. Only 20 more left after this. Dear God, why do I keep doing this to myself everytime!
